Broughton and Greene lead Saint Augustine's past 62-55

RALEIGH, NC --Ashanti Broughton totaled 12 rebounds and Taniyah Greene added 10 more, and the Saint Augustine's women's basketball team knocked off the 62-55 at home Tuesday.

Broughton and Greene's fantastic rebounding performances led the Falcons (2-0) in the contest. Broughton tacked on five points and Greene added 11 points and two steals. Lauren Banks also helped out with 11 points.

Greene pulled down seven offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Saint Augustine's, grabbing 19 boards and turning them into 13 second chance points.

The Saint Augustine's defense held shooters to just 36.2 percent from the field.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 7-4 advantage, Saint Augustine's went on a 12-0 run with 7:40 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Janiya Reed, to increase its lead to 19-4. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 23-10 advantage. Saint Augustine's capitalized on six turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.

Saint Augustine's kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 9:03 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Prophet Sheffield, to increase its lead to 28-10. The cut into that lead, but the Falcons still enjoyed a 35-23 advantage heading into halftime. Saint Augustine's forced seven turnovers in the period and turned them into four points.

Saint Augustine's continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run to expand its lead further to 47-37 with 1:05 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Falcons added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 50-39 edge. Saint Augustine's took advantage of nine turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

The Falcons then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Saint Augustine's pulled down six offensive rebounds to score five second chance points out of 12 total in the period
