RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 7) - The Saint Augustine's University (SAU) Falcons 2023 Football season is officially underway as players report to campus for fall camp. SAU first-year Head Coach Howard Feggins hope for a successful turnaround this season. The team will practice Tuesday through Friday this season from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Key players to watch this season are as follows:
Returning Players:
- Ty'quereon Hines, DB: Led SAU in interceptions (4), which placed him tied for fourth in the CIAA last season.
- Lee Sales, ILB: led the Falcons in tackles (61) and was second in sacks (3). Sales also placed thirteenth in the CIAA in solo tackles (37) and tenth in sacks (3). Named to the 2023 Preseason All-CIAA Team. Click here for more information.
- Deandre Proctor, WR: Do-it-all athlete that led the Falcons in receptions (32) and receiving yards (309) last season.
- Dennis Jones, RETURNER: led the Falcons in Punt Return yards (34) with his longest return of 21. Jones was also second on the team in Kick Return yards (271) with his longest return of 24, placing him eighth in the CIAA. He will serve as the team's leading kick return specialist this season. Transfers:
- Uriah Ratliff, DB: Recorded 63 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1 interception for Bethune Cookman in 2022
- Jaterrian Brooks, DT: Transferring to SAU from Dodge City College in KS.
- Charles Henry, DT: Saw action in one game in 2022 for University of New Mexico, registering a tackle against Maine.
- Jahaven Phillips, DE: Recorded 13 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss for Limestone in 2021
- Monte' Williams, ILB: Recorded 44 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions and 3 pass breakups for St. Andrews in 2022.
- Anthony Butler, QB: The 6-4, 230 Transfer from Millersville University (PA) completed 39 of 76 passes for 440 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 2022.
- Marquis Munoz, RB: Transferring to SAU from Salt River Junior College in AZ.
- Jalen Coutee, TE: Saw action in one game in 2022 for Independence Community College (KS), registering a reception for a touchdown against Highland Community College.
- EJ Alvarez, OL: Transferring to SAU from Fort Lewis College in CO.
