RALEIGH, NC --The Saint Augustine's women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit at 37-27 with 7:55 left in the third quarter to defeat the Lincoln (PA) Lions 63-52 at home Thursday
The Falcons (9-5, 3-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Lauren Banks, who had 17 points and two steals. Taniyah Greene tacked on a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Keziah Soogrim added six points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
Soogrim pulled down seven offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Saint Augustine's, grabbing 19 boards and turning them into 18 second chance points.
Saint Augustine's defense held Lincoln (PA) to only 32.8 percent shooting from the field.
How It Happened
Saint Augustine's struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Falcons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-25 halftime deficit.
Lincoln (PA) continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 37-27 advantage before Saint Augustine's went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Janiya Reed, to trim its deficit to 37-33 with 5:33 to go in the third. The Falcons continued to reduce the Lincoln (PA) lead, shrinking it to 41-39 by the end of the third quarter. Saint Augustine's knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.
Saint Augustine's then came back to even it up at 50-50 before going on a 10-0 run to seize a 60-50 lead with 51 seconds to go in the contest. The Falcons kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 63-52 win. Saint Augustine's took advantage of six Lincoln (PA) turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
