Falcons Host Bears In Crosstown Basketball Rematch Saturday

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College hosts Shaw University on Saturday (Feb. 13) in a CIAA Western Division basketball matchup between crosstown rivals. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium.

 

In the men's game, the streaking Falcons (20-3 overall, 14-2 CIAA, 6-0 Western Division) will attempt to extend their eight-game win streak over the Bears (12-11, 9-7 CIAA, 2-4 Western). The Falcons handled their rivals the first time, holding the Bears to their lowest point total in a 67-48 victory on Feb. 1.

 

The Falcons, ranked fourth in the latest Atlantic Division rankings, enter the contest with an 11-game win streak. They lead the CIAA and Western Division standings with four games left.

 

The Falcons are ranked No. 1 nationally in Division II in field goal percentage defense (36.4 percent). On Thursday, the Falcons beat Livingstone 87-74 to win 20 games for the first time since 1997, the year they won their only CIAA title.

 

In the women's game, the Lady Falcons (14-9, 10-6 CIAA, 4-2 Western Division) look to avenge a 53-52 loss to the Lady Bears (14-8, 9-7 CIAA, 3-3 Western Division) on Feb. 1. The Lady Bears won the first meeting on a last-second putback. The loss snapped the Lady Falcons' two-game win streak over the Lady Bears.
