BOWIE, Md. - Saint Augustine's College held a double-digit lead in the second half, but host Bowie State recovered to record a 67-54 victory on Saturday in a CIAA men's basketball game at A.C. Jordan Arena.
Joel Kindred (Fr./Raleigh, N.C.) scored 13 of his 21 points in the first half for the Falcons, who led 30-27 at halftime. The Falcons (3-9 overall, 2-2 CIAA) extended the margin to 40-29 in the first four minutes of the second half before going ice cold. They only made two field goals the rest of the game.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs went on a 38-14 run in the final 16 minutes. The backcourt duo of Eric Vann and Darren Clark sparked the Bulldogs during the run as they combined for 25 second-half points. Both guards finished with 19 points each.
Shaun Washum (Sr./Norfolk, Va.) added 11 points for the Falcons, who shot 20 percent in the second half. For the game, the Falcons made 30 percent of their shots. Kindred added nine rebounds for the Falcons. Travis Hyman had 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots in addition to seven points for the Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 4-0 CIAA), who stayed unbeaten in the league with the win.
After two consecutive road games, the Falcons return home Monday on Martin Luther King Day. They host Chowan in Share Our Shoes Night in Emery Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Fans are asked to donate shoes to the Haiti earthquake victims. The Bulldogs travel to Livingstone on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
