The 2011 CIAA Tournament pairings are set for the Saint Augustine's College men's and women's basketball teams. The Lady Falcons face Virginia Union Monday at 3 p.m., and the Falcons tangle Elizabeth City State on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in first-round games at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.
The Lady Falcons enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed in the Southern Division. They finished the regular season 17-10 overall including 11-6 in the CIAA and 5-5 in the Southern Division. Virginia Union is the No. 5 seed in the Northern Division. The Lady Panthers are 3-22 overall, 3-15 in the CIAA and 3-9 in the Northern Division. The winner will face Northern Division top-seed Elizabeth CIty State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
In their regular-season meeting, the Lady Falcons pounded the host Lady Panthers 82-48 on Jan. 13 behind Allison Sikes' triple-double. The CIAA player of the year, SIkes (Richmond, Va.) had 24 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals against the Lady Panthers.
In the men's bracket, the Falcons are the No. 6 seed in the Southern Division. They ended the regular season 9-17 overall including 7-10 in the CIAA and 3-7 in the Southern Division. Elizabeth CIty State finished as the No. 3 seed in the Northern Division with a record of 17-9 overall, 11-7 in the CIAA and 7-5 in the Northern Division.
The Vikings won the regular-season matchup 71-57 in Elizabeth City, N.C. on Jan. 20. Joel Kindred, the CIAA rookie of the year, scored 15 points in that game for the Falcons. The Saint Augustine's College-ECSU winner advances Thursday to the quarterfinal round to play the winner between No. 2 Southern seed Shaw and No. 7 Northern seed Lincoln (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
