RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore guard-forward Jon Kindred (Raleigh, N.C.) turned in a fine performance with 16 points, but Saint Augustine's College couldn't prevent a late Fayetteville State run in a 77-68 loss to the Broncos in a CIAA men's basketball game Saturday at Emery Gymnasium. This was the first CIAA home loss for the Falcons in four games.
The score was deadlocked 65-65 with 4:30 remaining when the Broncos (10-9, 6-5 CIAA, 2-2 Southern Division) finished the contest on a 12-3 run. Guard Tim Plummer scored five of his 20 points during the spurt including a three-point play at the 1:21 mark for a 73-66 Bronco lead.
Plummer and forward Sidney Evans (23 points, 19 rebounds) carried the bulk of the offense for the Broncos. The duo combined to hit 17 of 27 shots which included several impressive dunks. Plummer also pulled down 10 rebounds as the two players recorded double-doubles for the Broncos, who were unstoppable inside.
The Broncos collected more rebounds (51-38) including 18 on the offensive backboards which led to 25 points. Forty-six of the Broncos' points were in the paint as they shot 46 percent from the floor including 48 percent in the second half to offset 18-for-37 free-throw shooting.
