RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore guard
Joel Kindred (Raleigh, N.C.) dropped a career-high 30 points for Saint Augustine's College, but CIAA scoring leader Trevin Parks scored 32 points to lead Johnson C. Smith University to an 89-79 CIAA men's basketball win Monday (Feb. 20) at Emery Gymnasium.
Parks poured in 23 points in the second half as the Golden Bulls (11-14, 6-9 CIAA, 4-5 Southern Division) erased a 40-34 halftime deficit. The Golden Bulls outscored the Falcons 55-39 in the second half.
Sophomore guard
Tyron Laughinghouse (Greenville, N.C.) added 11 for the Falcons, who fell to 13-12, 8-7 CIAA and 3-6 in the Southern Division. Delonta Boyd chipped in 11 points for the Golden Bulls.
Kindred was 9-for-18 from the floor and 10-for-12 from the free throw line in his best scoring night as a Falcon. He scored 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting to spark the Falcons to their six-point halftime lead. Kindred scored 19 points in the second half, but Parks was even hotter.
Parks was 2-for-8 for seven points in the first half, but made 8 of 9 shots and 8 of 8 free throw attempts in the second half. He scored eight points during a 10-2 run in the first 2:12 of the second half including a basket which gave the Golden Bulls a 44-42 lead. The Falcons would never lead again.
The Falcons conclude the regular season at home against crosstown rival Shaw Thursday (Feb. 23) at 7:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the Falcons.
