FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Junior guard Tyquan Stroman (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored 13 points including four free throws late to lead Saint Augustine's College to a 62-59 CIAA men's basketball win over Fayetteville State University at Capel Arena.

Chris Johnson (Hampton, Va.) both scored 11 points for the Falcons, who improved to 12-8, 7-3 CIAA and 2-2 in the Southern Division. Sidney Evans led all scorers with 22 points and Jarmel Baxter added 11 points for the Broncos, who dropped to 4-13, 2-7 CIAA and 0-4 in the Southern Division.
The contest was tightly contested with neither team leading by more than four points until the last few minutes when the Falcons opened some breathing room. A three-pointer by junior guard
David Brown (Richmond, Va.) and a layup by Johnson pushed the Falcons lead to 56-50 with 1:37 remaining. The Falcons then converted 6 of 8 free throws including the last four in a row in the final 43.5 seconds to clinch the victory.
The Broncos led 30-26 at halftime as the Falcons shot 28.6 percent in the first half. The Falcons warmed up some in the second half, shooting 43.5 percent to climb back in the game. They tied the score at 41 with 11:47 left, and outscored the Broncos 21-18 the rest of the way.
The Falcons are back in action again Monday (Feb. 6) when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to square off against nationally-ranked Winston-Salem State, tied at No. 25. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
In the first meeting on Jan. 28, the Falcons defeated the Rams 61-55 in Raleigh, N.C.
