St. Aug Hosts Claflin In Basketball Doubleheader Tuesday (Nov. 19)

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will host Claflin University in a basketball doubleheader at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 18, 2013. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

The St. Aug men's team is off to a blazing start with a 2-0 overall mark. Led by guards Joel Kindred (Sr./Raleigh, NC) and Amere May (Jr./South Haven, MI), the Falcons are averaging a whopping 107 points in their two wins. They defeated Morris College 108-88 in the season opener on Nov. 11 and Pfeiffer 106-87 on the road on Nov. 16.

Kindred, an All-CIAA Preseason Pick, finished with 26 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead four Falcons with double-doubles in points and rebounds against Morris. May scored 36 points against Pfeiffer in only his second game in a St. Aug uniform. He scored 30 points in the second half to pace the Falcons to victory.

May is averaging 30 points and Kindred averages 24.5 points and 13 rebounds. Center Jon Crawley (Sr./Richmond, VA) averages 13 points and 11 rebounds and forward Daniel Clark is averaging 14 points and nine boards.

Claflin (2-2 overall) is coming off an 84-65 home win over Barber Scotia College on Nov. 16. Marcellus Dunn and Quinton Nance scored 26 and 21 points, respectively, for the Panthers.

The St. Aug women are playing at home for the first time this season. They are coming off a two-game Florida road trip in the Saint Leo Classic. The Lady Falcons came away with losses to Saint Leo University (77-67) on Nov. 14 and Eckerd College (61-54) on Nov. 15, but both contests were competitive.

Sophomore guard Regime McCombs (Greenville, SC) averaged 16 points at the Classic including a game-high 26 points to go along with team-highs of four rebounds, four steals and four assists against Saint Leo. McCombs is last season's CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year. Sophomore center Terri Jacobs (McDonough, GA) scored 15 points and sophomore guard Porscha Walton (Chesterfield, VA) added 13 points against Eckerd.

The Lady Falcons host a Claflin team which routed Barber Scotia 100-36 in its season opener at home on Nov. 16. Uniqua Mitchell led the Lady Panthers with 25 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jahira Smith added 23 points.

Ticket prices are $12 for general admission, $8 for non-St. Aug students with valid student ID, senior citizens, faculty, staff and military. Ticket prices for children ages 6 to 12 is $8. St. Aug students are admitted free with a valid SAU ID. Children five and under are free (one per paying adult).
