The Falcons fell behind early and never recovered against the Bulldogs (3-3 overall). The deficit reached 18 points before the Falcons pulled within 43-32 at halftime. The Falcons started slowly in the second half, however, and fell behind by 20 points with four minutes elapsed. A layup by Gaskins sliced the deficit to 67-54 midway in the second half, but Barton stretched its lead to 19 points with 4:22 remaining.
Though the Falcons lost both games in two nights at the Classic, St. Aug Head Coach Tony Sheals says the contests will help his team in the long run.
"One thing we learned is these teams [at the Classic] have experienced players that understand how to play," Sheals said. "From a talent standpoint, our talent is pretty much even, but talent doesn't win games. You have to be a team. We did not play well on both ends but we didn't quit. We continued to fight. The kids now understand we have a lot of work to do."
Despite the defeat, there were some positives. Clark was named to the All-Classic team. He averaged 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games. Gaskins scored eight in the second half in 10 minutes off the bench. Gibson scored eight points in four minutes off the bench to help the Falcons end the first half on a late run.
The Falcons outscored the Bulldogs 29-27 in bench points. For the game, they had eight steals and totaled 15 assists on 22 baskets.
Chris Flemmings led Barton with 20 points. Daniel McClendon added 16 points and Kendall Patterson scored 13 points for the Bulldogs.

They visit fellow CIAA member Elizabeth City State University in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 29. The following night, the Falcons play Washington Adventist University on Saturday, November 30 at 7 p.m.
