CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University controlled the first half, but Johnson C. Smith University heated up in the second half, especially Trevin Parks, as the Falcons lost 76-68 to the Golden Bulls in a CIAA men's basketball contest at Brayboy Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.

Guard Tyquan Stroman (Sr./Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored 16 points and guard Percy Woods (Sr./Washington, D.C.) added 13 points for St. Aug (15-8, 5-2 Southern Division), who fell into a four-way tie for first place with Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State and Livingstone. The Falcons entered the contest leading the division by one game.

It appeared the Falcons would hold onto their lead after opening a 35-28 halftime lead. But the game turned around in the second half once Parks heated up. The senior guard dropped 32 points in the second half as the Golden Bulls outscored the Falcons 48-33. The 48 points are the second-most points the Falcons have given up in the second half this season.

Parks finished with a career-high 41 points. He made 10 of 15 shots including 5 of 9 three-pointers in addition to hitting 16 of 20 free throw attempts. In the second half, Parks was 9 of 11 from the floor including 5 of 7 from behind the three-point arc. He hit 9 of 10 free throw attempts.

“We let Parks get going, and he killed us,” said St. Aug Head Coach Lonnie Blow, Jr., whose Falcons are on a two-game losing skid.

For the Falcons, reserve center Jonathan Crawley (So./Richmond, Va.) added nine points and six rebounds and guard Joel Kindred (Jr./Raleigh, N.C.) added five points, 10 rebounds and two steals off the bench as the Falcons held a 28-11 edge in bench points. The Falcons also outrebounded the Golden Bulls 39-29 including 23-7 in offensive rebounds which led to 14 second-chance points.

For the Golden Bulls, Emilio Parks and Richard Daniels both added nine points. Marcus Walker had eight points and eight rebounds as the Golden Bulls scored more points in the paint, 26-16.

In the first half, it was the Falcons who won then inside battle. The Falcons held a decisive 26-10 advantage on the glass, including 15-3 in offensive rebounds, to open a seven-point halftime lead. Kindred grabbed five rebounds and Crawley had four to lead the Falcons on the boards.
The Falcons went on a 9-1 spurt in the last three minutes to gain their halftime lead. The key plays during the run were a Kindred layup off a rebound by Chris Johnson (R-Jr./Hampton, Va.), and a Woods jumper following his own miss for a 30-27 lead.

The last minute reflected the Falcons' dominance on the glass. Forward Chris Campbell (So./Chesapeake, Va.) was fouled after rebounding a miss. He made one free throw and missed the second, but the Falcons snatched the rebound. Woods missed the jumper, but guard Jordan Baber (So./Washington, D.C.) grabbed another rebound before being whistled with a travel.

The Falcons entered halftime with the momentum, but it changed once Parks got hot.

“We didn't play particularly well all night long,” Blow said. “We didn't play smart. It was not a good night for us.”

After three consecutive road games, the Falcons are back at home against arch rival Shaw at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013. Game time is 4 p.m.
