Box Score LINCOLN, Pa. – Saint Augustine's University saw its eight-game win streak come to an end in a 69-48 defeat to Lincoln (Pa.) University in a CIAA men's basketball contest at Rivero Hall on Saturday, January 11, 2014.
Junior guard
Amere May (South Haven, MI) and junior forward
Tashaun Stockdale (Poplar, SC) each scored 11 points to pace the Falcons (3-1 CIAA, 10-4 overall), who were playing their second conference game on the road in three days. The Falcons were undone by 28 turnovers which led to 34 Lincoln points. The Falcons scored two points off seven Lincoln turnovers.
"I have to give credit to Lincoln," St. Aug Head Coach Tony Sheals said. "[The Lions] were ready to play. They executed.
"This is the most experienced team we have played this season. They returned four of five starters and eight returning lettermen. This was an experienced team playing against an inexperienced team, and it showed, especially with us playing on the road. They were unbeaten at home."
Senior center Jon Crawley (Richmond, VA) chipped in nine points, six rebounds and two blocks while senior guard-forward
Joel Kindred (Raleigh, NC) had six points and six rebounds for the Falcons. Stockdale added six rebounds.
The Falcons fell behind 9-0 and never recovered. They pulled within three points on three occasions in the first half, but the Lions (3-2 CIAA, 11-3 overall) went on a 21-9 run to enter halftime leading 41-26.
The Lions open the second half with a 13-2 run in the first five minutes for a 54-28 lead. The margin reached 30 points before the Falcons finished with a 12-3 spurt for the final margin.
"We cannot continue to dig ourselves in a whole from the start," Sheals said. "We climbed back to make it a competitive game and then we lost our poise the last five minutes of the first half. We've been fortunate to come back from a 21-point deficit against Elizabeth City State and a 12-point deficit against Bowie State, but you can't keep playing from behind and expect to win."
George Jackson paced the Lions with 21 points and Tony Efese added 14 points. The Lions shot 47 percent for the game and the Falcons shot 41 percent. The Falcons outrebounded the Lions 35-23.
This was the second of a five-game road stretch for the Falcons. They will visit Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va., on Monday, January 13, 2014. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
"Now we have to start the streak all over again," Sheals said. "I will find out a lot about our basketball team Monday night. I am confident we will bounce back."
