Joel Kindred (Raleigh, NC) scored 16 points and senior center Jon Crawley (Richmond, VA) added 13 points and 11 rebounds as Saint Augustine's University fell behind early and lost to Winston-Salem State University 76-67 in a CIAA men's basketball contest in the MLK Classic at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, January 18, 2014.

Tashaun Stockdale (Poplar, SC) added 10 points off the bench for the Falcons (0-1 Southern Division, 3-3 CIAA, 10-6 overall), who played their fourth consecutive road game. The Falcons got off to a slow start in losing their third straight contest.
The Falcons outscored the Rams 44-30 in the paint and outrebounded the host 40-30 including 16-9 on the offensive glass which they converted to 17 points. Kindred and sophomore forward
Daniel Clark (Danville, VA) each had seven rebounds to help Crawley on the boards. But the Rams shot 48 percent including 56 percent in the first half when they built a 46-32 halftime lead.
The Rams extended their lead to 51-32 early in the second half. By the 10-minute mark, the score was 63-42.
The Rams led 73-53 with 4:47 left when the Falcons spurted late. They outscored the Rams 14-3 capped by a three-pointer by junior guard
Raheem Jolliffe (Fayetteville, NC) for the final margin.
Jolliffe scored seven points and dished out four assists. Clark and freshman guard
Anthony Gaskins (Greenville, NC) each scored six points for the Falcons, who shot 45 percent. Clark also had three blocks and Crawley two blocks.
Preston Ross and Marquez Jones each scored 26 points for the Rams (1-0 Southern, 5-2 CIAA, 10-7 overall). They combined to make 8 of 14 three-pointers as the Rams connected on 10 of 22 threes for 46 percent.

Tayron Gibson (Alexandria, VA) pulled the visitors within 12-10. Crawley later scored on a tip-in to tie the score at 19-19.
The Rams opened a 30-21 lead, but the Falcons scored seven straight points capped by Crawley's three-point play to trim the deficit to 30-28. The Rams then separated themselves from the Falcons with a 10-0 run for a 40-28 lead. The Falcons went into halftime trailing by 14 points.
Kindred led the Falcons with eight points. Crawley and Stockdale both added seven points as the Falcons shot 48 percent but committed nine turnovers. Jones had 16 points and Ross scored 12 points for the Rams.
The Falcons will hit the road for the fifth of a five-game road stretch on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. They will face Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
