Falcons, Lady Falcons Look To Bounce Back Against JCSU Wednesday (Jan. 22)

Saint Augustine's University will visit Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. for the women's game and 7:30 p.m. for the men's contest.

The Falcons and Lady Falcons are looking to regroup from Saturday, Jan. 18. The Falcons lost 76-67 to Winston-Salem State University and the Lady Falcons fell 62-52 to WSSU in the MLK Classic at Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. The contests were the CIAA Southern Division openers for the Falcons (0-1 Southern Division, 3-3 CIAA, 10-6 overall) and Lady Falcons (0-1 Southern Division, 4-2 CIAA, 9-6 overall).

The Falcons have won eight of their last 11 games. The Lady Falcons have won seven of their last nine contests. This will be the fifth of a five-game road stretch for both teams.

Sophomore guard Amere May (South Haven, MI) averages 19.4 points and senior guard Joel Kindred (Raleigh, NC) averages 15.2 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Falcons, who average 80.8 points. Senior center John Crawley (Richmond, VA) averages 12.6 points and 8.1 rebounds. The 6-foot-8, 300-pound Crawley leads the CIAA in field goal percentage (63.0) and blocks per game (2.3).

Sophomore guard Regime McCombs (Greenville, NC) averages 12.7 points to lead the Lady Falcons in scoring. Sophomore guard Porscha Walton (Chesterfield, VA) averages 10.1 points, nearly four assists and 2.1 steals. Sophomore center Terri Jacobs (McDonough, GA) averages 9.7 points and 8.9 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who average 10 steals. McCombs leads the CIAA in three-point field goal percentage (40.0).

The Golden Bulls (0-1 Southern Division, 3-4 CIAA, 11-6 overall) are led in scoring by junior forward Emilio Parks, who averages 17.8 points and 8.4 rebounds. Junior guard LaMarquis Letchaw averages 14.9 points and senior forward Robert Williams averages 13.5 points. They lost 72-67 to Fayetteville State University on the road on Saturday. The Golden Bulls are shooting 48.1 percent from the floor this season.

Senior guard Karnina Bunch is the scoring leader (14.5 points) for the Lady Golden Bulls (0-1 Southern Division, 5-2 CIAA, 10-6 overall) and senior guard Deanna Downer averages 11.6 points. The Lady Golden Bulls lost 56-31 to Fayetteville State on Saturday. They are limiting opponents to 61.6 points this season.
