Falcons Visit Claflin In Men's Basketball Saturday (Nov. 22)

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Saint Augustine's University will visit Claflin University in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center on Saturday, November 22, 2014. The starting time has been moved 30 minutes earlier to 3:30 p.m.

Both teams are searching for their first victory of the season. The Falcons are 0-2 overall after losing to West Liberty University 105-61 and Cheyney (Pa.) University 69-63 at the MEC/CIAA Challenge in West Liberty, W.Va., last weekend. West Liberty entered the season as the nation's top-ranked Division II team. Claflin is also 0-2 overall after falling to the University of West Georgia 78-73 and Lee University (Tenn.) 66-63 in the SIAC/GSC Challenge in Carrolton, Ga., on Nov. 14-15.

"Claflin is a very tough team and they play extremely hard," SAU Head Coach MarQus Johnson said. "The energy of the guys is high and they worked very hard this week. It's going to be a challenge but one that our guys are well prepared for."

A bright spot for the Falcons is guard Raheem Jolliffe (Sr./Fayetteville, NC), who leads the CIAA in scoring after the first week with a 23.5-point average.  He dropped a career-high 27 points against West Liberty and followed that scoring effort with a 20-point outing against Cheyney. Jolliffe is also tied for the team's steals lead with Julius Murphy (So./Goldsboro, NC). They both average 1.5 steals a game.

Forward Damarian Henderson (So./Goldsboro, NC) averages 12.5 points including 17 points against Cheyney. Forward Quincy January (Fr./Atlanta, GA) leads the Falcons in rebounding with a 7.0 average. Forward Kendall Jackson leads four Claflin players in double-figures with a 15.0 scoring average on 52 percent shooting.

After the Claflin contest, the Falcons will host College of Faith at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Tuesday, November 25 at 7 p.m. It will be their first home game of the season.
