Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – Guard Raheem Jolliffe (Sr./Fayetteville, NC) scored 20 points and Anthony Gaskins (So./Greenville, NC) finished with 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as Saint Augustine's University put on a three-point shooting exhibition in a 93-65 men's basketball victory over Belmont Abbey College at The Wheeler Center on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.The Falcons cruised to their fourth straight win to improve to 6-4 overall. Belmont Abbey remained winless at 0-10 overall. "I'm proud of the way the guys came out and played today," Falcons' Head Coach MarQus Johnson said. "This should give us some momentum going into the Christmas break." Joliffe and Gaskins led five Falcons' scorers in double figures. Forward Tashaun Stockdale came off the bench to score 16 points and grab seven rebounds. Guard Keith Crawford (Jr./Richmond, VA) added 12 points and forward Quincy January (Fr./Atlanta, GA) chipped in 11 points including two thunderous dunks. The Falcons knocked down 11 of 21 three-pointers for 52 percent to run away from the Crusaders. Gaskins and Crawford made the bulk of the threes as both players swished 4 of 6 behind the arc. Overall, the Falcons shot 55 percent including 58 percent in the second half when they outscored the Crusaders 47-29.
"Our guys have been coming in the gym shooting extra shots and I think that made a difference," Johnson said about the Falcons' three-point shooting. "I tell them every day that they have to shoot with confidence and I believe they did that today."
Both teams combined to make 15 of 29 three-pointers in the first half, but the Crusaders were 1 of 11 behind the arc for nine percent in the second half.
Nick Hough led Belmont Abbey with 18 points. Kendall Ratliff scored 14 points while Deion Lane and Ray Chen each scored 12 points.
In the first half, the Falcons shot 7 of 13 threes for 54 percent and the Crusaders were 8 of 16 for 50 percent from three-point land. Overall, the Falcons shot 52 percent and the Crusaders 50 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
Gaskins made 3 of 4 threes and Crawford was 2 of 4 behind the arc to push the Falcons to a 46-36 halftime lead. Gaskins led all scorers with 13 first-half points in addition to five rebounds and three assists, and Stockdale scored 12 points. Chen paced the Crusaders with 12 points including 3 of 3 shooting from three-point range.
The Falcons will take a Holiday break before visiting Elizabeth City State University in their CIAA opener on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
