Halftime Lead Slips From Falcons In Loss To Shaw

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior guard Raheem Jolliffe (Fayetteville, NC) scored 14 points and junior guard Xavier Saddler-Mee (Long Island, NY) scored 13 points for Saint Augustine's University in an 83-74 CIAA men's basketball loss to Shaw University at Spaulding Gymnasium on Saturday, February 15, 2014.

Four players scored in double figures for the Falcons. Senior center Jonathan Crawley (Richmond, VA) added 12 points and junior guard Amere May (South Haven, MI) scored 11 points and dished out six assists.

Saddler-Mee led the Falcons with nine points on 3-for-3 field-goal shooting and 3-for-3 free throw shooting while Jolliffe added eight points in the first half for the Falcons, who took a 41-26 halftime lead. Jolliffe scored all eight of his first-half points consecutively during a two-minute stretch to give the Falcons a double-digit lead. He canned two three-pointers and made two free throws to push the Falcons ahead 21-10. The Falcons led by double digits the rest of the half as they shot 60 percent in the first stanza including 4-for-8 from three-point range. They hit all seven of their free throws.

The Bears inched within 48-42 at the 15:13 mark of the second half. Jolliffe converted a three-point play to extend the margin to 11, and later nailed a three-pointer for a 56-46 Falcons' lead with 12:58 left. That was the last time the Falcons would lead by double digits.

The Bears tied the game at 58-58, and the score would be tied twice more before the Bears went on a game-clinching run. The contest was knotted at 61-61 with 7:31 left before the Bears outscored the Falcons 22-13 the rest of the way to gain the win. The Falcons were outscored 57-33 in the second half.

Junior forward Tashaun Stockdale (Poplar, SC) added nine points and junior guard-forward Tayron Gibson (Alexandria, VA) added seven points for the Falcons, who shot 50 percent from the floor overall . Andre Paulk scored a game-high 31 points and Aquil Younger and Chaz Thomas both scored 10 points for the Bears, who shot 48 percent from the floor including 55 percent in the second half.

The Falcons fell to 1-6 in the Southern Division, 4-9 in the CIAA and 11-12 overall after dropping their fifth consecutive game. The Bears improved to 2-5 in the Southern Division, 6-7 in the CIAA and 8-15 overall. The teams split the regular season series at 1-1. On January 25, the Falcons won 51-49 on a follow shot by Stockdale in the closing seconds.
