Amere May (South Haven, MI) scored 19 points and added nine rebounds for Saint Augustine's University in an 85-78 CIAA men's basketball defeat to Fayetteville State University at Capel Arena on Saturday, February 22, 2014.
The contest was the last regular season contest for the Falcons (1-9 Southern Division, 4-12 CIAA, 11-15 overall). They will play Tuesday, February 25, against an opponent yet to be determined in the first round of the CIAA Tournament at Time Warner Cable Arena. The tournament bracket will be released Sunday, February 23.
The Falcons enter the tournament on an eight-game losing streak, but the last six losses have been by an average of 5.1 points.
""The ending of the regular season did not go the way we expected, but the kids played hard," St. Aug Head Coach Tony Sheals said. "We have been competitive the last eight games, but we haven't found ways to finish games at the end.
"Our season is in four phases. The first phase was the preseason. The second phase was the non-conference schedule. The third phase was the conference schedule. Now phase four is the CIAA Tournament. Everything we have done is pointed toward one thing and that is to win the CIAA Tournament. We are at that point now and the kids need to have a short memory. This is our new season so let's start it on a winning note."
May scored 16 points in the second half to key a late Falcons rally. He pumped in 13 points during the last seven minutes including a layup with 23 seconds left to help the Falcons cut an 18-point deficit to four. Freshman guard
Anthony Gaskins (Greenville, NC) drilled two big three-pointers during the run. Tyrell Tate hit three free throws to seal the victory for the Broncos (6-4 Southern Division, 10-6 CIAA, 18-9 overall).

Xavier Saddler-Mee (Long Island, NY) both added 10 points for the Falcons. Junior forward

Tayron Gibson (Alexandria, VA) scored seven points. Senior center
Jonathan Crawley (Richmond, VA) had six points and seven rebounds.
Tate scored a game-high 26 points for the Broncos. Anthony Shelton added 12 points and Louis Craft had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks.
Both teams shot 52 percent in the second half. The Broncos shot 45 percent overall and the Falcons shot 43 percent.
The Falcons led 11-5 early but the Broncos regroup to take an 18-11 lead midway in the first half. The Broncos went into halftime leading 37-29.
Jolliffe paced the Falcons with eight points in the first half while Kindred chipped in six points. Tate had 12 first-half points and Shelton had nine points.
The Falcons shot 33 percent in the first half. The Broncos made 39 percent of their shots.
