Amere May Scores 29 In Falcons' Loss To Livingstone

Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – CIAA scoring leader Amere May (South Haven, MI) scored 29 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 93-76 CIAA men's basketball loss to Livingstone College at New Trent Gymnasium on Monday, February 3, 2014.

May, a junior guard, was 8-of-15 from the floor including 3-of-6 from three-point range. He was also 10-of-13 from the free throw line.

Senior center Jonathan Crawley (Richmond, VA) added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Senior guard-forward Joel Kindred (Raleigh, NC) had nine points and seven rebounds for the Falcons, who outscored the Blue Bears 33-32 in the paint.

The Falcons (1-4 Southern Division, 4-6 CIAA, 11-9 overall) led early 6-0 on back-to-back threes by Kindred and May, but the Blue Bears eventually took control. The Blue Bears led by 10 at halftime and scored five consecutive points for a 48-33 lead to start the second half. The Falcons got within 58-50 on a layup by Kindred, but that was as close as they would get. Turnovers would be the Falcons undoing as they committed 16 to 6 for the Blue Bears (4-1 Southern Division, 7-4 CIAA, 14-6 overall).

Mark Thomas scored 31 points while Jody Hill and Eric Mayo both scored 15 points for the Blue Bears. Mayo added 12 rebounds for the Blue Bears, who were 13-for-30 from three-point land.

The Falcons trailed 43-33 at halftime despite shooting 57 percent from the floor but 10 turnovers led to 13 points by the Blue Bears, who shot 47 percent in the first half.

May scored 10 points in the first half including two three-pointers and sophomore forward Daniel Clark (Danville, VA) added eight points. Thomas led all scorers with 21 first-half points.

The Falcons return home on Wednesday, February 5, to host Virginia State University in a CIAA contest at Emery Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
