FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will visit Fayetteville State University in a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Capel Arena on Saturday, January 31, 2015. The women's contest begins at 2 p.m. followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
The Lady Falcons (10-8 overall) are third in the Southern Division women's standings at 2-2 while the Lady Broncos (7-12 overall) are sixth in the division at 0-4. The Falcons (9-10 overall) are third in the men's standings at 2-2 while the Broncos (10-10 overall) are tied for fourth in the division at 1-3.
The women's contest features one of the league's best scoring teams against the top defensive team in the CIAA. The Lady Falcons rank second in the conference in points per game (75) and the Lady Broncos lead the CIAA in fewest points allowed per game (60.4).
Guard Porscha Walton (Jr./Chesterfield, VA) paces the Lady Falcons in scoring (13.4 points per game). Guard Regime McCombs (Jr./Greenville, SC), averages 13.3 points per game and forward Terri Jacobs (Jr./McDonough, GA) averages 11.6 points and 9.7 rebounds. Guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson (Jr./Temple Hills, MD) averages 10.9 points. McCombs ranks third in the CIAA in three-point field-goal percentage (37.3) and Jacobs ranks fourth in the CIAA in rebounds per game and 14th in Division II in offensive rebounds per game (4).
Center Deja Middleton leads the Lady Broncos in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounding (11.3 rpg), field goal percentage (57.8) and blocks (2.2 bpg). She ranks second in the CIAA in rebounding, leads the league in blocks and ranks among the top 20 in Division II in rebounds, blocked shots, field goal percentage and double-doubles. Forward Doreen Richardson averages 11.4 points and guard Shaquanza Manning averages 11.1 points.
The men's game pits the top offensive rebounding team in the conference against the CIAA's No. 1 scoring team. The Falcons lead the CIAA in offensive rebounding (14.9 rpg) and the Broncos lead the league in points (81.2 ppg).
Guard Raheem Jolliffe (Sr./Fayetteville, NC) of the Falcons leads the CIAA in scoring (17.6 ppg). Backcourt mate Anthony Gaskins (So./Greenville, NC) averages 12.8 points and forward Quincy January averages 10.5 points. January ranks second in the CIAA in field goal percentage (65.4) and eighth in Division II in offensive rebounds per game (3.74).
Guard Joshua Dawson averages 14.2 points to lead five double-figure scorers for the Broncos. He also leads the CIAA and ranks fourth in Division II in assists (6.8 apg). Guards Carl McCray and Anthony Shelton average 11.2 points and 11 points, respectively, while guard Devin Thompson averages 10.7 points. Forward Torian Showers averages 10.6 points. Center Gatluak Thiep leads the CIAA in blocks (3.0 bpg) and field goal percentage (71.4) while Thompson ranks second in three-point field goal percentage (50.6). Thiep ranks second in Division II in total blocks (61) and guard Juwan Addison is the CIAA leader in steals (2.2 spg).
