Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Quincy January (So./Atlanta, GA) finished with 26 points and eight rebounds for Saint Augustine's University in an 86-63 CIAA men's basketball loss to Virginia State University at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015.
The 26 points is a season high for January, who is averaging 19.8 points and 12.6 rebounds in his last five games. He was two rebounds shy from recording his fifth consecutive double-double.
January was 10-for-13 from the field and 6-for-9 from the free-throw line. In the second half, he scored 19 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and 5-for-8 shooting from the free-throw line to lead a Falcons' comeback from an 18-point halftime deficit.
The high-flying forward scored 13 points during a 27-15 run as the Falcons climbed back within six points. Nick Moyer (Sr./Martinsville, VA) capped the spurt with a layup to cut the Trojans' lead to 60-54 with 10:09 remaining in the game. After Moyer's basket, the Trojans responded with a 26-9 run to win going away.
Anthony Gaskins (Jr./Greenville, NC) added 13 points and D.J. Chamblee (Fr./Greensboro, NC) chipped in nine points and six rebounds for the Falcons (5-5 overall, 0-1 CIAA). Marquis Hines (Sr./Fayetteville, NC) scored six points and Keith Crawford (Sr./Richmond, VA) contributed five points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Kevin Williams scored 16 points to pace a balanced scoring attack for the Trojans (6-2 overall, 2-0 CIAA). Joseph Bradshaw added 14 points while Walter Williams and Waymond Wright each scored 11 points. Elijah Moore contributed 10 points.
The Falcons shot 33 percent from the field including 13 percent (4-for-30) behind the three-point line. The Trojans made 49 percent of their shots and outrebounded the Falcons 48-34 which led to a 21-11 advantage in second chance points. The Trojans also outscored the Falcons 38-13 in bench points and 17-10 in points off turnovers.
The Falcons will play their second home game in three days when they host Elizabeth City State University at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
