Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – Guard Raheem Jolliffe (Sr./Fayetteville, NC) scored 15 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 71-53 CIAA men's basketball loss to Virginia State University at Daniel Gymnasium on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Guard Anthony Gaskins (So./Greenville, NC) added 14 points and forward Quincy January (Fr./Atlanta, GA) chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds for the Falcons, who dropped to 3-8 in the CIAA and 9-12 overall. The Falcons remain tied for third in the Southern Division at 2-3. The Trojans improved to 10-2 in the CIAA and 16-5 overall. They are first in the Northern Division with an unblemished 6-0 mark.
The Falcons shot a season-low 30 percent in the loss. Despite the shooting woes, the Falcons only trailed 40-31 at halftime and 53-46 with a little under 12 minutes remaining in the contest. The Trojans finished with an 18-7 run to win by double digits.
The Falcons made 8 of 17 three-point attempts for 47 percent. Gaskins was 4 of 6 and Jolliffe 3 of 6 behind the three-point line. The visitors grabbed more offensive rebounds (13-6) which led to a 12-7 edge in second chance points.
The Falcons were not as successful at the free throw line. They made 9 of 16 free throw attempts for 56 percent.
Tyrece Little led the Trojans with 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Lamar Kearse and Elijah Moore both scored 12 points for the Trojans, who shot 47 percent from the floor. They were 6 of 16 behind the three-point arc for 38 percent and 17 of 26 at the free throw line for 65 percent.
The Falcons return to divisional play on Saturday, February 7, when they host Winston-Salem State University on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
