Saint Augustine’s University Hosts Winston-Salem State In Basketball Doubleheader Monday (Feb. 9)

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Saint Augustine's University men's and women's basketball teams will each play three games in six days this week beginning Monday, February 9, 2015.

The Falcons and Lady Falcons start their busy schedules by hosting Winston-Salem State University in a men's and women's doubleheader on the Harvey D. Heartley, Sr. Court at Emery Gymnasium on Monday. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 7, but was postponed to Monday.

Ticket prices are $13 for general admission, and $8.50 for visiting college students with ID, faculty and staff, military personnel with ID and children ages 6 to 12. Admission is free for Saint Augustine's University students with ID and children ages 5 and under with one playing adult.

If you can't attend the doubleheader, WAUG will televise both games on Time Warner Cable 1231 and digital television channel 8 in the Raleigh area. WAUG will also live stream both contests on its website www.waug-network.com. WAUG is a campus commercial radio and television station owned and operated by Saint Augustine's University.
 
The doubleheader against Winston-Salem State begins the second half of divisional play for both Saint Augustine's University teams. The Lady Falcons (2-3 Southern Division, 11-9 overall) and Falcons (2-3 Southern Division, 9-12 overall) can each move into a third-place tie in their respective standings with victories.
 
The Lady Falcons will attempt to sweep the season series after defeating Winston-Salem State 62-59 in Winston-Salem, N.C., on January 17. They enter the contest on a high note after defeating Virginia State on the road 77-69 last week. Guard Regime McCombs (Sr./Greenville, SC) scored 19 points including 5 of 9  three-point attempts against Virginia State, one of the top Northern Division teams. She leads the Lady Falcons in points per game (13.5) and ranks among the CIAA's top three-point shooters.
 
McCombs spearheads a Lady Falcons' offense which ranks second in the CIAA in points per contest (74.4). Guard Porscha Walton (Jr./Chesterfield, VA) averages 13.1 points and forward Terri Jacobs (Jr./McDonough, GA) averages 11.2 points and 9.8 rebounds. Guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson (Jr./Temple Hills, MD) averages 10.9 points. Walton scored 18 points and Jacobs added 16 points and 11 rebounds in the first meeting against the Lady Rams (1-4 Southern Division, 8-13 overall).
 
The Falcons are looking to regroup against Winston-Salem State after a 71-53 loss to Virginia State last week. They will count on the trio of Raheem Jolliffe (Jr./Fayetteville, NC), Anthony Gaskins (So./Greenville, NC) and Quincy January (Fr./Atlanta, GA) to stop the Rams, who defeated the Falcons 82-67 in an earlier meeting in Winston-Salem, N.C., on January 17. Jolliffe leads the CIAA in points per game (17.8) and January averages 10.6 points in addition to leading the conference in field goal percentage (65.6). Gaskins averages 13.1 points and leads the Falcons in assists per game (3.4) and steals per game (1.4).
 
Jolliffe led the Falcons with 20 points and January added 14 points in the first meeting against the Rams (4-1 Southern Division, 13-7 overall). Against Virginia State, Jolliffe scored 15 points and Gaskins added 14 points while January had 13 points and nine rebounds. The Falcons rank third in the CIAA in offensive rebounds per game (14.5) and fifth in three-point field goal percentage (36.3).
 
Forward Dionna Scott and guard Kersheria McNeil are the co-leaders in points per game (12.4) for the Lady Rams, who rank third in the CIAA in points allowed (61.2). Guards Terrell Leach and forward Donta Harper average 13.1 points and 13 points, respectively, for the Rams, who rank second in the CIAA in points per game (80.9). Forward WyKevin Bazemore averages 12.5 points and a CIAA-best 9.9 rebounds.
