The Falcons Face Chowan For The Second Time This Season

Falcons Host Chowan Thursday, Jan. 14, In Men’s Basketball At 7:30 p.m.

The Saint Augustine's University men's basketball team will host Chowan University at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.

The Falcons are 5-10 overall and 0-5 in the CIAA. The Hawks are 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the CIAA.

Ticket Prices

Ticket prices are $13 for general admission and $8.50 for faculty, staff, military personal with identification (ID), visiting college students with ID and children ages 6 to 12. The doubleheader is free for Saint Augustine's University students with ID and children ages 5 and under.

About the Falcons' Head Coach

MarQus Johnson is in his second season as the Falcons' head men's basketball coach. In his first season, Johnson coached guard Raheem Jolliffe to All-CIAA honors and forward Quincy January to CIAA Rookie of the Year honors. Johnson was elevated to head coach after two seasons as assistant men's basketball coach for the Falcons from 2012 to 2014. He was previously an assistant coach at Saint Augustine's University from 2008 to 2010. In the 2009-10 season, Johnson helped direct the Falcons to their second CIAA championship in school history. That squad advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament and earned a national top 25 ranking.

The Falcons rank second in the CIAA in points allowed per game (71.2).

The Falcons are third in the CIAA in offensive rebounds per game (13.9) and fourth in rebound margin per game (2.1).

 

January Leads CIAA In Rebounding

Sophomore forward Quincy January (Atlanta, GA) leads the CIAA in rebounds per game (9.0). He is fifth in the CIAA in blocks (16) and sixth in field goal percentage (57.4). January is the team's leading scorer with a 15.4 average. He is a Preseason All-CIAA pick who was the league' rookie of the year last season. The high-leaping forward ranks ninth nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (135).

 

Gaskins Scoring From The Perimeter

Preseason All-CIAA pick Anthony Gaskins (Jr./Greenville, NC) is picking up where he left off last season. He is the team's second-leading scorer with a 12.2 average despite missing four games due to injury.

 

Crawford Steady In The Backcourt

Senior guard Keith Crawford (Richmond, VA) is third on the team in points per game (10.9) and leads the team in assists per game (3.1). He is tied for second on the team in rebounds per game (3.9). Crawford was named CIAA Player of the Week this season.

Kortez Smith paces Chowan in points per game (15.8) and assists per game (3.9). Marco Haskins averages 13.1 points and Joe Goodwin averages 10.1 points per game.
