Falcons Travel To Livingstone Wednesday, Jan. 27, For Third Consecutive Men's Basketball Road Contest

The Saint Augustine's University men's basketball team will visit Livingstone College at New Trent Gymnasium in Salisbury, N.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.

The Falcons are 5-13 overall, 0-8 in the CIAA and 0-2 in the Southern Division. The Blue Bears are 8-12 overall, 3-5 in the CIAA and 1-2 in the Southern Division.

Ticket Prices

About the Falcons' Head Coach

MarQus Johnson is in his second season as the Falcons' head men's basketball coach. In his first season, Johnson coached guard Raheem Jolliffe to All-CIAA honors and forward Quincy January to CIAA Rookie of the Year honors. Johnson was elevated to head coach after two seasons as assistant men's basketball coach for the Falcons from 2012 to 2014. He was previously an assistant coach at Saint Augustine's University from 2008 to 2010. In the 2009-10 season, Johnson helped direct the Falcons to their second CIAA championship in school history. That squad advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament and earned a national top 25 ranking.

 

Falcons Among CIAA Leaders On Defense

The Falcons rank second in the CIAA in points allowed per game (71.3).

 

January Leads CIAA In Rebounding

Sophomore forward Quincy January (Atlanta, GA) leads the CIAA in rebounds per game (9.2). His 3.39 offensive rebounds per game rank 22nd in Division II and leads the CIAA. He is fourth in the CIAA in blocks (19) and fourth in field goal percentage (57.9). January is the team's leading scorer with a 15.7 average. He is a Preseason All-CIAA pick who was the league's rookie of the year last season. The high-leaping forward has a CIAA-best eight double-doubles, which ranks 21st nationally in Division II.

 

January Among Nation's Leaders In Free Throw Attempts

Quincy January ranks 11th nationally in Division II in free throw attempts (154).

 

Gaskins Scoring From The Perimeter

Preseason All-CIAA pick Anthony Gaskins (Jr./Greenville, NC) is picking up where he left off last season. He is the team's second-leading scorer with a 13.6 average despite missing four games due to injury. The Falcons' guard leads the team with 34 three-pointers made.

 

Crawford Steady In The Backcourt

Senior guard Keith Crawford (Richmond, VA) is third on the team in points per game (10.2) and leads the team in assists per game (3.2). He is fourth on the team in rebounds per game (3.6). Crawford was named CIAA Player of the Week this season.

 

About The Opponent

Forward Ty Newman paces Livingstone with a 17.1 scoring average. He also leads the Blue Bears in rebounds per game (6.7) and steals per game (1.6). Guards Eric Dubose and Daryl Traynham average 12.6 and 11.8 points per game. Forward Nasir Austin scores at 11 points a clip. Traynham averages 4.9 assists per game. Head Coach James Stinson, who is in his 12th season, has led the Blue Bears to the last two CIAA championships. The Blue Bears lead the league in defensive rebounds per game (27.3).
