Falcons Visit Crosstown Rival Shaw University In Basketball Doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 13

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will visit Shaw University in a CIAA men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Spaulding Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 4 p.m.

 

WSHA-88.9 FM will broadcast the game on radio beginning at 1:45 p.m. The men's game can be heard on www.flexzoneradio.com.

 

Both Saint Augustine's University and Shaw are in a three-way tie for second place in the Southern Division at 4-3. The Falcons (9-14 overall) defeated their crosstown rival 71-67 at Emery Gymnasium on Feb. 1 during their four-game win streak, which was snapped Wednesday, Feb. 10, by Johnson C. Smith University, which leads the division by one game.

 

Forward Quincy January (Soph./Atlanta, GA) leads the Falcons with a 15.6 scoring average and a CIAA-leading 9.7 rebound average. Guard Anthony Gaskins (Jr./Greenville, NC) averages 14.8 points per contest. The Bears (11-14 overall) are led by Larry Richardson, who averages 13.8 points per game.

 

The Lady Falcons (3-20 overall, 0-7 CIAA Southern Division) will attempt to win their first CIAA contest of the season against the Lady Bears, who won the first meeting 92-55 at Emery Gymnasium. The Lady Falcons are led by guard Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, VA), who paces the Lady Falcons in scoring (15.2), rebounding (6.8), assists (1.9) and steals (2.0). Guard Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, VA) averages 10.9 points per game.

 

The division-leading Lady Bears (20-5 overall, 7-0 CIAA Southern Division) are sparked by guard Kaula Jacks and center Ebony Ross. Jacks averages 12.7 points per game and Ross averages 12.6 points and 9.8 rebounds.
