Kenneth Collins Scores 19 Points For The Falcons
RALEIGH, NC (Jan 11) – On Wednesday, Kenneth Collins (Jr./Clayton, NC) scored 19 points including four three-pointers for Saint Augustine's University, but the Falcons lost 70-67 to Lincoln (Pa.) University in a CIAA men's basketball game at Emery Gymnasium.
Anthony Gaskins (Sr./Greenville, NC) added 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists for the Falcons (3-3 CIAA, 9-8 overall), who led by 14 points in the second half. Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA) finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Collins scored 11 points in the second half including a three-pointer to stretch the Falcons lead to 52-38 with 13:55 left but the Lions (3-3 CIAA, 4-11 overall) rallied to victory with a 32-15 run. Trailing by three, the Falcons called timeout with 15.8 seconds remaining but misfired on a three-pointer which would have sent the contest into overtime.
Jquwan Ruffin (R-Fr./Ahoskie, NC) scored seven points and D.J. Harrison (So./Winston-Salem, NC) pulled down six rebounds for the Falcons, who made just 16 of 31 free throw attempts for 51.6 percent. The Falcons were 8 of 17 at the charity stripe for 47.1 percent in the second half.
Joshua Davis scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead four Lincoln double-figure scorers. Sean James scored 15 points, Khayyir Laws totaled 14 points and Tracey Nelson added 10 points for the Lions, who shot 55.6 percent in the second half.
Collins scored eight points while Gaskins and Ruffin each added five points in the first half to push the Falcons to a 33-27 halftime lead. The Falcons never trailed in the first half after Collins opened the contest with two consecutive three-pointers for a 6-0 lead.
Ishmael Baldwin (Jr./Kinston, NC) scored on a layup for a 15-5 advantage but the Lions came back to tie the score 23-23 with 5:13 remaining in the half. The Falcons ended the half with a 10-4 run capped by Ruffin's three-pointer with eight seconds remaining. The Falcons held the Lions to 30 percent shooting in the half.
The Falcons will attempt to snap a two-game losing skid when they host Winston-Salem State University in the CIAA Southern Division opener at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 14. The 4 p.m. contest is the fifth of six consecutive home games for the Falcons.
