SAU Hosts Winston-Salem State In Basketball Doubleheader Saturday, Jan. 14

The Women's Game Begins At 2 p.m. Followed By The Men's Contest At 4 p.m.


RALEIGH, NC (Jan 13) – On Saturday, Jan. 14, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) will host Winston-Salem State University in a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Emery Gymnasium. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 4 p.m.

 

This will be the CIAA Southern Division opener for all four teams. The Falcons are 3-3 in the CIAA and 9-8 overall and the Lady Falcons are 0-6 in the CIAA and 3-15 overall. The Rams men are 1-3 in the CIAA and 5-8 overall and the Rams women are 1-3 in the CIAA and 5-9 overall.

 

Before the start of the men's game, Falcon standouts Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA) and Anthony Gaskins (Sr./Greenville, NC) will be honored for scoring over 1,000 career points this season.

 

Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $8.50 for children ages 6-12, visiting college students, faculty, staff, senior citizens and military personnel with valid ID. The doubleheader is free for SAU students and children ages five and under (one per paying adult). The Lady Falcons are led by guard-forward Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA), who leads the team in points per game (11.6) and rebounds per game (4.1). Guard Tiana Edwards paces the Rams with a 9.7 scoring average.

 

For the men, January, a forward, averages team highs of 16.8 points and 9.4 rebounds for the Falcons, who will attempt to snap a two-game losing skid. Gaskins, a guard, averages 15.9 points and guard Kenneth Collins (Jr./Clayton, NC) averages 12.1 points. Guard-forward Ameer Jackson averages 16.6 points and forward William Crandell averages 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game for the Rams.

 

The Falcons men have won two straight games and four of the last five contests against the Rams at Emery Gymnasium since 2012. In 2016, Gaskins buried a three-pointer at the buzzer for a 58-55 Falcons victory at home.
