SAU Hosts Johnson C. Smith In Basketball Doubleheader Wednesday (Jan. 18)

The Women's Game Starts At 5:30 p.m. Followed By The Men's Contest At 7:30 p.m.

 

RALEIGH, NC (Jan 17) – On Wednesday, Jan. 18, Saint Augustine's University will host Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA basketball doubleheader at Emery Gymnasium. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.


Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $8.50 for children ages 6-12, visiting college students, faculty, staff, senior citizens and military personnel with valid ID. The doubleheader is free for SAU students and children ages five and under (one per paying adult). The Falcons are tied for first in the men's Southern Division standings. They are 1-0 in the division, 4-3 in the CIAA and 10-8 overall. The Golden Bulls are 0-1 in the Southern Division, 2-3 in the CIAA and 6-9 overall.


The Falcons are coming off a 70-62 victory over Winston-Salem State University at home in their Southern Division opener on Saturday, Jan. 14. Standout forward Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA) finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the game for his eighth double-double of the season. He ranks 11th nationally in Division II in that category.


The Golden Bulls have lost their last two contests including a 63-55 defeat at home to Fayetteville State University on Saturday. Forward Gabon Williams came off the bench to score 16 points for the Golden Bulls.


In the women's standings, the Lady Falcons are 0-1 in the Southern Division, 0-7 in the CIAA and 3-16 overall. They are coming off their best effort of the season in a 70-69 loss to Winston-Salem State at home on Saturday. Guard Maiya Gibson scored 14 points for the Lady Falcons, who led by 11 points at halftime and shot a season-high 47.7 percent in the contest.


The Golden Bulls are atop the Southern Division standings. They are 1-0 in the division, 4-1 in the CIAA and 11-4 overall. Ranked ninth in the latest D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll, the Golden Bulls are on a three-game win streak including a 73-64 victory over Fayetteville State at home on Saturday. Guards Malia Rivers and Asha Jordan scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, in the contest for the Golden Bulls.
