SAU Men's Basketball To Take Part In Coaches Vs. Cancer Week Wednesday Against Livingstone (Jan. 25)

 

Falcons Coaching Staff Will Wear Tennis Shoes On Sidelines To Raise Awareness

 

RALEIGH, NC (Jan 24) – On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Saint Augustine's University will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week when the Falcons and Blue Bears square off in a CIAA men's basketball game at Emery Gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

 

Falcons Head Coach MarQus Johnson and his staff - as well as the Livingstone coaches - will wear sneakers on the sidelines to help bring attention to the fight against cancer. The Suits and Sneakers Week is a nationwide event that unites coaches across the country to raise awareness about the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society and to promote the organization as a place for help and support. The men's contest is part of a basketball doubleheader. The women's game between both squads will start at 5:30 p.m.

 

Ticket prices for the doubleheader are $13 for adults and $8.50 for children ages 6-12, visiting college students, faculty, staff, senior citizens and military personnel with valid ID. The doubleheader is free for SAU students and children ages five and under (one per paying adult). The contest is the first of two meetings this season between the Falcons and Blue Bears. The Falcons (10-10 overall) are tied for third in the Southern Division at 1-2 and the Blue Bears (6-12 overall) are second at 2-1.

 

The Falcons are led by forward Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA), who leads the CIAA in rebounds per game (9.6) and ranks second in points per game (16.9). He ranks among the top 20 nationally in Division II in four categories – free throw attempts (2nd/167), double-doubles (13th/9), total rebounds (14th/192) and free throws made (19th/100).

 

Guard Anthony Gaskins (Sr./Greenville, NC) is the team's second leading scorer (15.5 points per game) and ranks second in the CIAA in three-point field goals made (49). Guard Kenneth Collins (Jr./Clayton, NC) averages 11.2 points and ranks eighth in the conference in three-point field goals made (36). The Falcons rank second in the CIAA in points allowed per game (67.4) and third in field-goal percentage defense (40.9).

 

Three players score in double figures for the Blue Bears. Forward David Duncan averages 12.9 points, forward Eric Dortch-Jones averages 10.7 points and forward Jimmy Wilson averages 10.2 points. The Blue Bears average 74.8 points as a team and rank third in the CIAA in rebound margin (5.8).
