Gathright Scores 22 Points In SAU Men's Basketball Loss To Mount Olive

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 17) – Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC) scored 22 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 99-84 men's basketball loss to the University of Mount Olive in the Mount Olive Pickle Classic at Kornegay Arena on Friday.

Rashad George (R-Fr./Raleigh, NC) and Quinton Morrow (Jr./Burlington, NC) added 15 points apiece for the Falcons, who shot 50 percent from the floor including 40 percent (6 of 15) behind the three-point arc. Kenneth Collins (Sr./Clayton, NC) contributed eight points and D.J. Harrison (Jr./Winston-Salem, NC) finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.

Otis Hill, Jr. (So./Shallotte, NC) collected seven points and four steals for the Falcons. Two-time CIAA Defensive Player of the Year Quincy January (Sr./Atlanta, GA), who is averaging a double-double in points and rebounds, did not play due to injury. The Falcons knocked down 24 of 32 free throw attempts for 75 percent.

The Falcons led briefly in the early minutes but trailed 51-39 at halftime. The deficit was never below double digits in the second half.

Tayon Gleaves scored 27 points and Cameron Robinson added 19 points for the Trojans (2-1 overall), who shot 52.2 percent. They made 11 of 24 three-point attempts for 45.8 percent and outscored the Falcons 38-26 in the paint and 46-25 in bench points.

The Falcons (0-3 overall) return to Mount Olive, N.C., on Saturday, Nov. 18, to play Barton College in the Mount Olive Pickle Classic. Tip-off is 5 p.m.
