SAU Men's Basketball Hosts Claflin In Home Opener Monday, Nov. 20

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 19) – After starting the season with four games on the road, Saint Augustine's University will host Claflin University in its home opener at Emery Gymnasium on Monday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $11 for general admission and $5.50 for faculty, staff, military personnel, senior citizens, visiting students with ID and children ages 6 to 12. The non-conference contest is free for Saint Augustine's University students with ID and children ages five and under (one per paying adult).

The Falcons are hoping the friendly confines of Emery Gymnasium will lead to their first victory of the season. Without leading scorer and rebounder Quincy January (Sr./Atlanta, GA), the Falcons dropped both games in the Mount Olive Pickle Classic over the weekend, falling 99-84 to the University of Mount Olive and 79-73 to Barton College. January sat out both games due to injury.

Guard Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC) emerged as a prolific scorer in the Classic, averaging 22.5 points in two games for the Falcons. He poured in 23 points against Barton and 22 points against Mount Olive. Guard Kenneth Collins (Sr./Clayton, NC) displayed his shooting prowess, scoring 19 points, including 4 of 8 three-pointers in the loss to Barton. Guard Rashad George (Redshirt Fr./Raleigh, NC) also stepped up as he averaged 12.5 points, six rebounds and three assists in two games.

Claflin (2-1 overall) is topped in scoring by center Jaleel Charles and guard Benjamin Williams. Charles averages 16.3 points in addition to 9.3 rebounds and Williams averages 16 points.
