Box Score
RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 29) – Saint Augustine's University picked up a 68-64 men's basketball non-conference road win over Chowan University at the Helms Center in Murfreesboro, N.C. on Wednesday.

The victory was the second in a row for the Falcons, who shot 51 percent from the floor. They have shot 50 percent or better in four games this season.

The Falcons ranked third in the CIAA in field goal percentage entering the contest. The Hawks led the CIAA in field goal percentage and points scored but were held to 41.2 percent shooting and 64 points by a stingy Falcons defense.

Quincy January (Sr./Atlanta, GA) returned to form against the Hawks, tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Slowed by injury the last five games, January was 9 of 11 from the floor and 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

The high-leaping forward gave the Falcons a 66-58 lead on a three-point play with 2:04 left in the second half. The Hawks got no closer than the final margin.

The Falcons led the entire second half after holding a two-point halftime lead. Gathright stretched the margin to seven at 51-44 on a three-pointer, but the Hawks sliced the score to 55-54 with five minutes left before a 13-10 game-ending run by the Falcons.

Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC) and Quinton Morrow (Jr./Burlington, NC) scored 13 points each and Kasey Bryant (Sr./Raleigh, NC) chipped in 11 points for the Falcons, who outscored the Hawks 34-22 in the paint. The Falcons made 4 of 10 three-point attempts for 40 percent.

Dino Muminovic scored 13 points and Tim Hewett added 12 points for the Hawks (4-2 overall), who lost their second straight game. The Hawks were 7 of 20 behind the three-point arc for 35 percent.

The Falcons (2-6 overall) were red-hot in the first half, shooting 56 percent to take a 33-31 halftime lead. Led by 12 points from January, the Falcons erased an early five-point deficit with their shooting. His dunk at the 6:06 mark put the Falcons up 26-24, but the Hawks regained the lead at 31-29. January tied the game on another dunk and Gathright scored on a driving layup as time expired for the two-point lead at the break.

After their third road game in five days, the Falcons will take a break during exam week before resuming play against Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., on Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. They will face Chowan again in a CIAA contest at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
