The Falcons (2-6 overall) enter Saturday's contest on a two-game winning streak including a 68-64 road win over Chowan University on Nov. 29. Quincy January (Sr./Atlanta, GA) scored 21 points and snatched 10 rebounds in the game for his third double-double of the season. The standout forward is averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds in addition to shooting nearly 70 percent from the floor (69.6). He is fourth among active Division II players in career double-doubles (41) and fifth in career rebounds (825).
Guards Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC) and Quinton Morrow (Jr./Burlington, NC) average 16.3 points and 10.5 points, respectively, for the Falcons, who are one of the top shooting teams in the CIAA. The Falcons are third in the conference in field goal percentage (47.3) and third in three-point field goal percentage (38.5).
This is the second meeting between SAU and Claflin this season. On Nov. 20, the Panthers defeated the Falcons 69-54 in Emery Gymnasium. Post player Jaleel Charles posted team highs of 14 points and nine rebounds against the Falcons.
Charles averages 16.3 points and 8.9 rebounds for the Panthers (9-1 overall), who have won their last eight games including a victory over the Falcons. Tre Williams averages 13.1 points for Claflin, which ranks second nationally in Division II in points allowed (60.0) and second in field-goal percentage defense (35.8).
After facing Claflin, the Falcons will visit Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Game time is 7 p.m.
