SAU Hosts Archrival Shaw In Basketball Doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 11)

The Women's Game Starts At 2 P.M. Followed By The Men's Contest At 4 P.M.
 

RALEIGH, NC (Feb 10) – On Saturday, Feb. 11, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) will host crosstown rival Shaw University in a CIAA basketball doubleheader at Emery Gymnasium. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 4 p.m.

 

Ticket prices for the doubleheader are $13 for adults and $8.50 for children ages 6-12, visiting college students with ID, faculty, staff, senior citizens and military personnel with ID. The doubleheader is free for SAU students and children ages five and under (one per paying adult).

The Lady Falcons are led by guard-forward Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA), a three-time CIAA Rookie of the Week winner. She leads all CIAA freshmen in scoring (12.6 per game) and is the top free throw shooter in the league (89.1). Forward LaQuisha Taylor averages 21 points and 9.7 rebounds for the Lady Bears (4-3 Southern Division, 9-16 overall).

 

The Lady Falcons lead the CIAA in free throw percentage (71.8). The Lady Bears lead the league in three-point field goal percentage (33.1).

 

Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA) is the Falcons leading scorer and rebounder. The high-leaping forward leads the CIAA in rebounding (9.8) and ranks fifth in scoring (16.7). He ranks second nationally in Division II in free throw attempts.

 

Guard Anthony Gaskins (Sr./Greenville, NC) is the team's second-leading scorer (15.5) and ranks second in the CIAA in three-pointers made (59). Both Gaskins and January reached the 1,000-point career mark this season. Guard Benji Bell averages 16.8 points and 3.4 assists for the Bears.

 

The Falcons (1-6 Southern Division, 10-14 overall) are third in the CIAA in points allowed (68.1). The first-place Bears (6-1 Southern Division, 12-11 overall) are third in the conference in free throw percentage (72.0).

 

Both the Falcons and Lady Falcons (0-7 Southern Division, 3-22 overall) are looking to even the season series. In the first meeting, the Lady Bears won 69-57 and the Bears were victorious 51-46 at Spaulding Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C. on Jan. 21.
