Quincy January Tallies Team-Highs Of 21 Points And 9 Rebounds For The Falcons

RALEIGH, NC (Feb 4) – On Saturday, Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA) scored 21 points and snatched nine rebounds for Saint Augustine's University in a 78-74 CIAA men's basketball defeat to Winston-Salem State University at the Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Anthony Gaskins (Sr./Greenville, NC) added 18 points and Jquwan Ruffin (R-Fr./Ahoskie, NC) scored 13 points for the Falcons, who were clicking offensively in the Southern Division contest. The Falcons shot 46.4 percent from the floor, 38.9 percent behind the three-point line and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.

But hot shooting by the Rams propelled them to victory. They were 54.7 percent from the floor, 38.9 percent from three-point range and 76.5 percent from the charity stripe. The Rams shot 54.8 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point land in the second half as they outscored the Falcons 44-35 to erase a 39-34 halftime deficit.

William Crandell sparked the Rams (3-3 Southern Division, 10-12 overall) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ameer Jackson scored 19 points and Robert Colon added 15 points.

Gaskins scored 13 points and January added nine points in the first half as the Falcons buried 6 of 11 three-pointers for 54.5 percent to build their five-point halftime lead. Gaskins made 3 of 5 treys, Ruffin was 2 of 3 and Kenneth Collins (Jr./Clayton, NC) was 1 of 2 in the first half.

The Falcons (1-5 Southern Division, 10-13 overall) will play their third consecutive away game when they visit Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
