Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 20) – Saint Augustine's University regrouped in the second half of a 74-49 CIAA men's basketball loss to Johnson C. Smith University at Brayboy Gymnasium on Saturday.
Kenneth Collins (Sr./Clayton, NC) scored 12 points for the Falcons (1-1 Southern Division, 9-10 overall), who entered the contest on a three-game win streak and had won seven of their last eight matchups. D.J. Harrison (So./Winston-Salem, NC) and Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC) each scored nine points with Harrison grabbing five rebounds.
The Falcons held CIAA leading scorer Robert Davis to 10 points but trailed 18-2 in the first half. Despite falling behind, the Falcons never quit. They nearly played the Golden Bulls to a standstill in the second half.
Christian Kirchman paced the Golden Bulls (2-0 Southern Division, 10-7 overall) with 20 points. Roddric Ross added 15 points.
After six straight road games, the Falcons return home to host Shaw University at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in a battle between crosstown rivals at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons play five of their remaining eight regular-season games at home.
