RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 3) – Saint Augustine's University opens the new year against Bowie State University in a CIAA men's and women's basketball doubleheader in Bowie, Md., on Thursday, Jan. 4. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. at A.C. Jordan Arena.

The red-hot Falcons (3-0 CIAA, 6-8 overall) have won their last four games including a 79-66 men's road win over Belmont Abbey College on Dec. 30, 2017. The CIAA Southern Division leaders, the Falcons own the best conference record in the league.
Super senior Quincy January (Atlanta, GA) averages a double-double of 15.3 points and a CIAA-best 12.5 rebounds. The reigning two-time CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, January is a terror on the boards. He ranks third nationally in Division II in rebounds per game, fifth in offensive rebounds per game (4.3) and 10th in defensive rebounds per game (8.2) in addition to ranking 11th in double-doubles (7). He is tied for second in career double-doubles (45) and ranks third in career rebounds (912) among active Division II players.
The Falcons get their points from January and Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC), the Falcons' leading scorer with a 17.5 scoring average. Kenneth Collins (Sr./Clayton, NC) and Quinton Morrow (Jr./Burlington, NC) both average 8.4 points per game.
The Bulldogs (0-2 CIAA, 5-8 overall) are seeking their first conference victory. Tied for fourth in the CIAA Northern Division, the Bulldogs are led by Omari George (15.8 scoring average), Ahmaad Wilson (14.2 scoring average) and Dayshawn Wells (10.2 scoring average). Saiquan Jamison averages 8.4 rebounds per game including four offensive rebounds per contest which ranks 10th nationally in Division II.
The last two games between the Falcons and Bulldogs have been thrillers. Last season, the Falcons won 77-71 in overtime at home inside Emery Gymnasium. Two seasons ago, the Bulldogs eked out a 73-71 overtime win in the CIAA Tournament quarterfinals.
The Lady Falcons (1-2 CIAA, 4-8 overall) enter Thursday's game ranked third in the CIAA Southern Division. Sophomore standout Kaaliya Williams (Richmond, VA) paces the Lady Falcons in points per game (11.8) and is tied for the nation's lead in free throw percentage (97.2). She has made 35 of 36 free throw attempts this season. Quiera Gilmore (So./Charlotte, NC) averages 9.8 points and Kelsee Arnold (Jr./Fayetteville, GA) averages 8.4 points for the Lady Falcons, who rank 10th nationally in Division II in turnovers forced per game (24.4).
The Bulldogs (1-1 CIAA, 8-3 overall) are fifth in the CIAA Northern Division. Ranked eighth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll, the Bulldogs are led by Kyah Proctor (14.1 scoring average) and Sade Chatman (11.0 scoring average).
The Bulldogs have one of the best defenses in the nation. They rank 13th in Division II in points allowed (54.4).
The doubleheader is the first of three in five days for the Falcons and Lady Falcons. Both teams travel to Lincoln (Pa.) University on Saturday, Jan. 6, and Virginia Union University on Monday, Jan. 8.
