SAU Men's Basketball Travels To Claflin In CIAA Opener Monday, Nov. 19

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 18) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) visits Claflin University in a CIAA men's basketball game on Monday, Nov. 19, in Orangeburg, S.C. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.

This is the CIAA opener for both teams. After two straight wins, the Falcons fell at home on Saturday, Nov. 17, to nationally-ranked Virginia State University 70-51 for their first defeat of the season. The Panthers (1-2 overall) beat Tuskegee University on Saturday at home 64-51 after suffering two losses.

Preseason All-CIAA selection Tyre Gathright (Sr./Wilmington, NC) is the leading scorer for the Falcons. The SAU guard averages 18.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Jalen Gaddy (Jr./Raleigh, NC) is scoring at 14.3 points a clip and Jquwan Ruffin (Jr./Ahoskie, NC) averages 11.7 points. Danny Brown leads five double-figure scorers for Claflin with a 17.0 average.

This could be a high-scoring affair. The Falcons average 72.3 points and the Panthers average 74.7 points. The SAU men are limiting teams to 69.7 points through three games, however. The Panthers, who joined the CIAA this season, allow 75 points per game.

After the conference matchup against Claflin, the Falcons travel to Florida on Thanksgiving weekend. They visit Lynn University on Friday, Nov. 23, and Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, Nov. 24.
