January Hits 1,500-Point Milestone In SAU Men's Basketball Loss To Livingstone

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 22) – Quincy January (Sr./Atlanta, GA) of Saint Augustine's University reached the 1,500-point milestone in the Falcons' 64-57 men's basketball loss to Livingstone College at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 21. This was the Falcons' final home game of the season.

 

January is the first Falcons' player in recent memory to score over 1,500 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds in a career. Needing one point to reach the mark coming into the contest, January scored career point 1,500 on a free throw with 4:36 remaining before halftime.

 

The high-flying forward finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, his 10th double-double of the season and 48th of his spectacular four-year career with the Falcons. Kasey Bryant (Sr./Raleigh, NC) also scored 13 points as the Falcons started slowly before heating up in the second half. Behind 29-17 at halftime, the Falcons climbed back in the contest but could never catch the Blue Bears, who moved into a third-place tie with the Falcons at 4-5 in the Southern Division.

 

The Falcons whittled down a 14-point deficit to three twice in the second half, the last time at 59-56 on Bryant's three-pointer with two minutes left. The Blue Bears finished the contest on a 5-1 run including 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute.

 

D.J. Harrison (Jr./Winston-Salem, NC) tacked on seven points while Ishmael Baldwin (Jr./Kinston, NC) and Rashad George (Jr./Raleigh, NC) both scored six points for the Falcons, who are 12-14 overall. Roger Ray scored 18 points and Rashard Todd added 11 points for the Blue Bears, who are 10-12 overall.

 

After shooting 21 percent in the first half, the Falcons bounced back to make 53 percent in the second half as they outscored the Blue Bears 40-35 after halftime. They tightened up defensively in the final 20 minutes as Livingstone shot 36 percent after making 48 percent of their shots in the first half.

 

Led by January, the Falcons scored 24 inside points and 14 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds. The Blue Bears were able to convert 16 Falcons' turnovers into 20 points and make 15 of 17 free throws for 88.2 percent.

 

The Falcons head to Fayetteville, N.C., to visit Fayetteville State University in the final regular-season game on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m. The Southern Division contest will be played at Capel Arena.
