SAU Men's Basketball Ends Regular Season With 67-48 Win Over Fayetteville State

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 24) – Rashad George (Fr./Raleigh, NC) scored 14 points and Tyre Gathright (Jr./Wilmington, NC) added 11 points as Saint Augustine's University closed out the regular season with a 67-48 CIAA men's basketball victory over Fayetteville State University at Capel Arena on Saturday. The 48 points tied a season-low for a Falcons' opponent.

With the win, the Falcons (13-14 overall, 10-6 CIAA) remain tied for third in the Southern Division with Livingstone College at 5-5. They await the seedings for the CIAA Tournament, which will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 3 at Bojangles Coliseum and the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Eight players scored six or more points for the Falcons, who shot 36.4 percent behind the three-point line and 81.8 percent (9 of 11) from the free throw line. The trio of Ismael Baldwin (Jr./Kinston, NC), Kenneth Collins (Sr./Clayton, NC) and Craig McDaniel (Jr./Holly Springs, NC) each scored seven points, and the threesome of Quincy January (Sr./Atlanta, GA), Kasey Bryant (Sr./Raleigh, NC) and Quinton Morrow (Jr./Burlington, NC) scored six points apiece. The Falcons held a 17-4 advantage in turnover points over the Broncos.

The Falcons expanded their 30-22 halftime lead in the second half. After the Broncos opened the half with a three-pointer, the Falcons went on a 15-1 run for a 45-26 lead. The margin increased to 63-40 on McDaniel's three-pointer with 4:32 remaining in the contest.

Willie Gilmore scored 15 points and Josh Bryant added 10 points for the Broncos, who were limited to 36 percent shooting and made 6 of 16 free throws for 37.5 percent. The Broncos will be the No. 5 Southern Division seed in the CIAA Tournament after finishing 7-20 overall and 3-7 in the division.
