RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 25) – The Saint Augustine's University men's and women's basketball teams face Chowan University in CIAA Tournament first-round action on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Bojangles' Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. The women's game begins at 2:20 p.m. and the men's contest starts at 8:50 p.m.

The Falcons and Lady Falcons both enter the tournament as No. 4 Southern Division seeds in their respective brackets. The Lady Falcons finished the regular season 7-18 overall, 4-12 in the CIAA and 3-7 in the division while the Falcons are 13-14 overall, 10-6 in the CIAA and 5-5 in the division. The Falcons posted the fourth-best conference mark in the CIAA. Both Chowan men's and women's squads are No. 5 Northern Division seeds.
The SAU-Chowan women's winner takes on Northern Division top seed Virginia Union University in the quarterfinal round Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 2:20 p.m. The victor of the SAU-Chowan men's game squares off against Virginia State University, the Northern Division's No. 1 seed, in Wednesday's quarterfinal game at 6:40 p.m.
The SAU men were 2-0 against Chowan in the regular season. They won the first meeting 68-64 in a non-conference road matchup on Nov. 29, 2017. The second contest counted in the CIAA standings as the Falcons won 71-58 at home on Dec. 18, 2017.
The Lady Falcons lost both games against Chowan. The scores were 86-65 in a non-conference game during the Fayetteville State Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 24, 2017, and 81-42 in a CIAA contest at home on Dec. 18, 2017.
