SAU Men's Basketball Looks To Extend Win Streak Wednesday (Jan. 30)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 29) – Saint Augustine's University will attempt to stretch its two-game win streak when the Falcons host Livingstone College in a CIAA Southern Division men's basketball matchup at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
 
The remaining seven games are crucial to the Falcons, who are trying to make a late season push in the Southern Division standings. They are currently fifth in the division at 2-3 but are only 1½ games behind co-leaders Livingstone and Winston-Salem State University. Both teams are 3-1 in the division.

ADMISSION
$13 general admission for the men's contest, which is part of a doubleheader. $8.50 for faculty/staff, senior citizens, military personnel, visiting students with valid ID and children ages 6-12. Free for SAU students with valid ID and children ages five and under (per one paying adult).

- The Falcons are on a two-game win streak. Both victories were against division opponents.
 
- Tyre Gathright (Sr./Wilmington, NC) was named CIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points and five rebounds in victories over Johnson C. Smith University and Shaw University last week. The Falcons guard ranks third in the CIAA in points per game (18.6) this season.

LAST MEETING AT EMERY GYMNASIUM
Quincy January of Saint Augustine's University reached the 1,500-point career milestone in the Falcons' 64-57 loss to Livingstone College at Emery Gymnasium on Feb. 21, 2018. January is the first Falcons' player in recent memory to score over 1,500 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds in a career. Needing one point to reach the mark coming into the contest, January scored career point 1,500 on a free throw with 4:36 remaining before halftime.
 
LAST GAME
The Falcons rained threes on crosstown rival Shaw University in a 76-74 Southern Division victory inside packed Spaulding Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 26. SAU was sizzling behind the arc, making a season-high 12 of 21 three-pointers for an astounding 57.1 percent. Tyre Gathright led the Falcons with 20 points. Rashad George (So./Raleigh, NC) added a career-high 19 points and Mel'Quan Ames (Jr./Weldon, NC) scored a career-high 17 points and added seven rebounds.
 
Shaw snapped Livingstone's five-game win streak Monday night, as the Blue Bears fell 96-61 in a CIAA Southern Division battle inside Spaulding Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C. Shaw held a 31-28 lead after the first half and led by 20 early in the second half. Roger Ray scored 24 points for the Blue Bears.
