RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 8) – Saint Augustine's University tuned up for its remaining CIAA competition by routing Carolina Christian College 77-59 in a men's basketball contest Tuesday at Emery Gymnasium.

Tyre Gathright (Sr./Wilmington, NC) led a balanced Falcons' scoring attack with 22 points.  Ishmael Baldwin (Sr./Kinston, NC) added 12 points and D.J. Harrison (Sr./Winston-Salem, NC) contributed 11 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons, who shot 52.5 percent from the floor. The field goal percentage was the team's third-highest of the season.

Rashad George (So./Raleigh, NC) pumped in 10 points, five rebounds and four assists and Miguel Brown (So./Wilson, NC) contributed nine points. Hirk Williams (Jr./Manassas, VA) finished with seven points and six rebounds as the Falcons dominated inside for a 48-14 scoring advantage in the paint.

The Falcons never trailed against the Centurions, nailing four three-pointers in the first four minutes for a 17-6 lead. The margin twice stretched to 21 points before the Falcons went into halftime ahead 40-26.

The 40 points scored by the Falcons were the most in the first half since their season opener. In that contest, the Falcons led 42-31 at halftime en route to 77-65 win over then nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg University at the Shaw Classic on Nov. 10, 2018.

On Tuesday, the Falcons' lead swelled to 26 points in the second half, at 67-41, on Harrison's jumper. The Centurions went on a late run but the Falcons won comfortably.

Gathright provide the highlight of the night with a devastating one-handed dunk over one of the Centurions' big men in the second half on a fast break. His slam, which drew a foul, brought the crowd to its feet.

The Falcons (3-9 overall) won the rebounding battle 37-28 and held the visitors from Winston-Salem, N.C., to 36.4 percent shooting while forcing 19 turnovers. They scored 16 points off the Centurions' errors.

Caleb Young paced the Centurions (4-4 overall) with 16 points. Dequan Lee added 13 points and Keontae Edwards chipped in nine points.

This was the final non-conference game for the Falcons, who return to CIAA play on Thursday, Jan. 10, against Bowie State University inside Emery Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons (3-9 overall), who hosted their last two games, are in the midst of a seven-game home stretch including three contests in five days beginning with Bowie State.
