SAU Men's Basketball Opens Week With Two Away Games Starting Monday (Jan. 20)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 19) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) starts the week with two away games in three days, including a CIAA men's basketball matchup against Bowie State University on Monday, Jan. 20.

Both teams meet for the second time this season at Jordan Arena in Bowie, Md. Game time is 6 p.m.


The Falcons are back on the road Wednesday (Jan. 22) for a rematch against Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at New Trent Gymnasium.


SAU looks to rebound from a 76-66 road loss to Virginia State University on Jan. 15. The Falcons held their own against the defending CIAA champions before falling late.


Gary Jefferson (Jr./Baltimore, MD) led the Falcons with 23 points against Virginia State. Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) added 11 points and Geordan Walker (Jr./Durham, NC) pumped in 10 points for the Falcons, who lost their second straight game after winning three in a row.


Jefferson paces the Falcons offensively, averaging 14.7 points on 47 percent shooting. He ranks fourth in the CIAA in field goal percentage.

Jefferson is one of four Falcons averaging over nine points per game. Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) averages 12.5 points, Karaan Clemonts (Jr./Weldon, NC) averages 9.6 points and Edwards averages 9.4 points.


The Falcons (0-5 CIAA, 5-10 overall) have improved since the beginning of the season. Despite losing their last two games, they are 3-2 in the New Year.


SAU was close to defeating both Bowie State (72-64) and Livingstone (90-86) in earlier home losses this season. The Falcons led at halftime against both teams, whose second-half runs ultimately decided the outcomes. The Falcons rallied from a late 15-point deficit against Livingstone (5-4 CIAA, 10-8 overall), tying the score with under a minute left before falling.

Bowie State (3-3 CIAA, 11-8 overall) is led in scoring by Cameron Hayes (14.4 points) and Saiquan Jamison (11.2), who ranks third in the conference in rebounding (8.8). CIAA scoring and assist leader Roger Ray (22.8 points/5.4 assists) paces Livingstone, who ranks first in the CIAA in scoring (85.2).
