RALEIGH, N.C. – Bianca Lee nailed two free throws with six seconds left to give Bowie State University a 60-58 CIAA women's basketball win over Saint Augustine's College on Saturday (Jan. 2) at Emery Gymnasium.
The free throws capped an 11-2 rally for the Lady Bulldogs (4-3 overall, 4-1 CIAA), who trailed 56-49 in the final three minutes. The Lady Bulldogs scored six points off three turnovers during the stretch, including a steal by Lee in the closing seconds. Lee was fouled on the floor after the steal.
Lee finished with six of the Lady Bulldogs' 13 steals. Denita Hill led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points and Teaunsha Robinson added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Taylor chipped in 11 points.
Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) led the Lady Falcons with 17 points and three blocked shots. LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) had 12 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals, and Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who led most of the game.
Both teams shot around 36 percent, but the Lady Bulldogs dominated the backboards 48-33 including a 24-12 edge in offensive rebounds. The decisive advantage led to the Lady Bulldogs outscoring the Lady Falcons 23-4 in second-chance points.
The Lady Falcons (4-6 overall, 2-3 CIAA) will look to snap a two-game losing streak Monday (Jan. 4) when they host Lincoln (Pa.) University at Emery Gymnasium. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
