Bryant Erupts For 41 Points In 74-60 Win Over Virginia Union

RICHMOND, Va. – Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) poured in a career-high 41 points on 18 of 24 shooting as Saint Augustine's College thumped Virginia Union University 84-70 for a CIAA women's basketball victory on Saturday (Jan. 9) at Barco-Stevens Arena.

 

Bryant, a 6-foot-0 forward, also added a game-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who evened their record to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the CIAA. She shot 11 of 14 from the floor for 24 points in the first half to spark the Lady Falcons to a 39-19 halftime lead.

 

Bryant eclipsed her previous high of 36 points, which she scored against Fayetteville State University on Nov. 29, 2008. Former star Carolyn Brown holds the Saint Augustine's College school single-game scoring record with 58 points against Tampa on Dec. 5, 1992.

 

Crystal McCaffity (Jr./Havelock, N.C.) added 13 points for the Lady Falcons, who shot 56 percent for the game. Tonaye Smith and Lavonna Spencer both scored 19 points to pace the Lady Panthers (3-9 overall, 0-8 CIAA), who shot 44 percent for the game but 25 percent in the first half.

 

The Lady Falcons will visit nationally-ranked Virginia State University on Monday (Jan. 11) in Petersburg, Va., for a CIAA contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
