MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 26 points and nine rebounds and LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 20 points, six rebounds and six assists to spark Saint Augustine's College to an 84-75 CIAA Western Division women's basketball win over Chowan University Monday (Feb. 15) at Helms Center.
Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) added 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who moved into a first-place tie in the Western Division when Livingstone College defeated leader Fayetteville State University Monday. The Lady Falcons (16-9 overall, 12-6 CIAA, 6-2 Western Division) host FSU on Thursday (Feb. 18) for the league lead at Emery Gymnasium in the season's final week. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
Najah Harris scored 22 points for the Hawks (9-15, 6-13 CIAA, 2-7 Western Division). Ransheeda Jennings and Tameka Christopher both added 12 points, and Talaya Lynch chipped in 11 points.
The Lady Falcons outrebounded the host Hawks 43-13 including 15-3 in offensive boards in a WBCA Pink Zone game on Senior Night. The Lady Falcons shot 57 percent and outscored the Hawks 14-2 in second-chance points and 42-28 in bench points to offset 26 turnovers.
The Hawks shot 49 percent and made 10 of 21 three-pointers to stay in striking distance. Both teams shot 62 percent in the second half.
The Lady Falcons spurted out to a 20-3 lead, but the Hawks came back to regain the lead at 62-59 at the 7:43 mark in the second half. Bryant keyed a 25-13 run with 10 straight points to finish off the Hawks.
White scored eight points and Iceson added seven points and 12 rebounds to give the Falcons a 36-27 halftime lead. Jennings led the Hawks with six points.
This was the final road game of the regular season for the Lady Falcons.
