Lady Falcons Move One Step Closer To CIAA Western Division Title

RALEIGH, N.C. – Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored a game-high 18 points and Saint Augustine's College is in the driver's seat for the Western Division crown after defeating Fayetteville State University 69-63 Thursday at Emery Gymnasium in a CIAA women's basketball game.

 

The Lady Falcons (17-9 overall, 13-6 CIAA, 7-2 Western Division) can clinch the title with a victory over Livingstone College Friday in the last regular season contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium. It will be Senior Night for Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) and Rudeesha Reese (Sr./Teaneck, N.J.).

 

Bryant led a balanced attack for the Lady Falcons. LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 13 points, and Jolisa Williams (So./Charles City, Va.), Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) and Ariel Brown (Jr./Cherry Hill, N.J.) added 10 points apiece.

 

LaQuasha Jordan scored 15 points and Tiffany Haywood added 11 points for the Lady Broncos (16-9, 12-7 CIAA, 7-3 Western Division), who are second in the Western Division.

 

The Lady Falcons scored 32 points off 29 turnovers for the game, made 21 of 28 free throws for the game, and shot 50 percent in the second half to hold off a late rally by the Lady Broncos. White and Iceson combined for 11 of the Lady Falcons' 18 steals.

 

The win evened the season series at 1-1. The Lady Falcons avenged a 60-49 loss to the Lady Broncos on Feb. 6.
